This morning I went to disable the settings related to Facebook’s Places. What is places?
There was a caption that Facebook does not disclose your location without your knowledge; however, it was interesting to me that all of the settings for Places were automatically enabled on my Account. So if I was a casual user, or didn’t keep track of the upgrades in technology, I could be exposed and not know it.
While I can understand from a youthful perspective why this would be attractive, personally, I still want to be in total control of who I allow to know to my whereabouts at all times. However, at the same time that I feel this would be dangerous functionality to put into the hands of children/teens, I wondered if it could possible be a way to find them in the event that something happens to them. The iphone apps allow for you to be logged into facebook – and as I do not have children (although many nieces and nephews) i would be curious as to feedback from a parental perspective.
Does this make you nervous? Check your children’s settings. As usual, Facebook’s unintuitive interface makes it that you have to go to several areas to disable this feature:
